During our two weeks we saw everything ( well almost ) in a car made easily rentable by Jim & Pauline, chateaux, abbeys and the city of Tours ( easily, inexpensively and comfortably reached by local bus - 1.70 euro each way! ) Do visit 'Grand Ma's', the patisserie and the 'Prehisto' cafe in the village. We would then return to 'Les Balcons' its comfort convenience and charm - merci beaucoup Jim & Pauline

Via email:  We have arrived safely in Toronto after a lovely day in Paris cramming as much as possible into our short stay there. But the highlight of the trip was our wonderful stay at "Les Balcons". I thank you both for making our visit with you so comfortable and enjoyable. You are superb hosts.

I wish you all the best; you deserve it!

Thanks you again.

Margaret

The reviews below were  for the 'Old Walnut Mill' which is currently closed for booking due to renovation work at the house and barn. As you can see we are striving to offer the same level of customer service at 'Les Balcons' and Le Bourg'

'The Old walnut Mill' has been a great retreat with all the modern conveniences with none of the stress of modern life. Thank you for all your help. The village of  Barrou is small but it has all you need for a pleasant holiday. Good luck with your new life in the Loire Valley.

There are not enough words in my dictionary to describe our visit to the Walnut Mill house in Barrou. The four of us adventured out each day at 9.30 returning by 6.00pm or shortly after. The history of the Loire was begat by all of us. Today (22nd) we toured the museum at Le Grand Pressigny --its a treasure!. Our cameras are filled with treasures and our friends and family will pleasure all and hear of each and every single one! No 'au revoir' - we may be back. Thank you for your kind hospitality we had a perfect Loire Valley holiday.

April 2009

What a wonderful time we have had, Jim & Pauline you have been thoughtful and attentive to our needs-including clothing for my husband due to lost baggage! Your home is lovely, we have been most comfortable and warm with the fireplace going every night. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we lost track of time --thinking and wishing we had one more day. Off to Paris we go and the serenity and peacefulness of here will be only a warm memory. My mother was comfortable-so nice to have spacious rooms and comfortable surroundings.

Our stay at 'The Old Walnut Mill' has been very enjoyable. The weather has been a bit damp and dreary but did not stop us visiting the surrounding sites, Tours, Amboise, Chenonceau, Azay le Rideau etc. We also spent a day around Barrou looking round the local chateau (La Guerch). We ended the visit with lunch at the 'Cafe de la Poste' -- 4 courses + wine- 11 euros--what a bargain!

For me, Emlyn, the trip to the Loire Valley was very special ,almost exactly 50 years after I had first planned to visit on a school trip from England. Obviously to travel widely and see the towns and chateaux etc is very time consuming but what we did see was memorable. We hope the next guests enjoy their visit as much as we did.

The Old Walnut Mill is quite the house, large, spacious and comfortable. As others have observed this house has the feeling of a genuine home-not just another rental unit. We appreciate all the thoughtful touches.... that made it really feel like home. Memorable! 'Vive le petit chateau' in Grande Rue!

"We've come a long way from the west coast of Canada to visit the Loire Valley and sample it's secrets- every step of the journey has been worth it. It's been a whirlwind of touring, an overload to all our senses, but this beautiful little "pièd à terre" has helped to keep us sane, with feet still on the ground for the most part. The Old Walnut Mill will always be a tremendously fond memory.
Jim and Pauline, we appreciate how much of yourselves you've put into this place and how much effort you've expended making it the ideal jumping off spot for the Loire's garden of delights. You are the perfect ghost-hosts.
It has been a delightful week and it has been so nice to be in a home environment rather than a hotel! What it does do is now the temptation to maybe, just maybe, someday, do something like this on our own! Thanks again and may your future with the Old Walnut Mill be full of success." BC, Canada
